Call of Adventure: Discover the World of Draconis!

Draconis is a feel-good RPG with an emphasis on wonder, discovery, imagination, and positivity. After several years of working together with the artist Chane, we are happy to finally present it to you! The campaign is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter from October 15th until November 8th.

Whether you are new to tabletop role-playing games, or a seasoned role-player, Draconis provides ready-to-be-played content under the form of a role-playing campaign!

Below, you will find a first look at the Draconis setting and the starting region featured in the campaign: the Mieriga Valley! A future article will go into depth on the characters you will play :)

The World of Dreanke

The adventures of the Draconis role-playing game take place in the lands of Dreanke, a fantastic world populated with dragons. The first book of the series, Call of Adventure, introduces one of its regions, but future volumes will detail the various territories of Dreanke, from its snowbound mountains, to its bustling towns, and all the way to its stormy oceans.

Should you already be familiar with Chane’s world, prepare to discover details aplenty about this setting, and its inhabitants. You will explore the lairs of legendary dragons, form connections with many human, and draconic friends, and see the magic of Sparks at work!

Draconis provides an exotic, colorful, peaceful setting for refreshing adventures. Humans discovered this marvelous world by traveling to it via magic portals; characters from your universe of choice may likewise make such a journey!

A World Populated by Dragons

What characterizes the fauna of Draconis’ setting is the omnipresence of dragons. Many species with diverse appearances and behaviors live in harmony with their environment, forming the unique ecosystem of the world of Dreanke. Learning to know these dragons, understand them, and respect them is the challenge that human populations faced as they discovered these fascinating creatures, and will be at the core of the adventures that the role-playing game’s characters—that’s you!—will face. Far from their iconic fantasy role as fire-breathing treasure hoarders, the dragons of Dreanke are complex, sensitive creatures, with tastes, emotions, and goals of their own, which vary from one species—and sometimes one individual—to another. The study of dragons has pride of place among scholarly circles, as well as in daily life!

Characters will thus get to interact with many dragons and deepen their knowledge of the species they will encounter in the course of their adventures. Gifting a choice morsel to a little rakva (see one of the artworks below) may mean making a friend for life, while being well-apprised of the habits of the sneaky eltamin may give one a chance to catch sight of its elegant prancing.

Living Side by Side With Dragons

On Dreanke, one lives alongside dragons. This presents many upsides: dragons can act as faithful companions, exceptional mounts, or protectors gifted with beneficial magic. But dragons can also be pests, or exhibit behaviors dangerous to humans that one had better be cognizant of. Villagers are used to their granaries getting regularly pilfered by greedy pigones, and have grown attached to these diminutive neighbors. Dreankens have also learned to steer clear of draconic hunts. Dragons are not vindictive beings, but fear, or hunger, can drive them to aggressive behaviors. Compassion is often key to avoid an attack: respecting a dragon’s space or helping it calm down will generally suffice to avoid a confrontation. The Draconis role-playing game encourages resolving situations peacefully and benevolently, and the system was designed with this in mind.

Hear the call to adventure and discover the wondrous draconic creatures the Mieriga Valley is home to!

The Mieriga Valley

Draconis is a beginner-friendly role-playing game that will take you into Chane’s universe. The book includes a description of the Mieriga Valley where your first adventures will take place. It is a peaceful, idyllic locale nestled in mountains, a sanctuary of serene, enchanting beauty, kept under the protection of the great dragoness Najoria.

This haven of peace provides its inhabitants with everything they need: fertile lands, pastures abundant in lush, flowery grass, fish-filled waters, and ore-rich caves. So far, no incidents have been recorded through its history of human-dragon cohabitation. Mieriga also has a few unique natural treasures that may spark the interest of curious adventurers.

To the west, the water that streams from the high glacier pours down into beautiful waterfalls. In winter, these freeze into an ice-laced, immaculately white curtain considered to be one of the wonders of the North. Some say that Najoria’s lair lies beyond…

As for the oldest forest of Mieriga, it is a wondrous, awe-inspiring place! It's entire flora seems to move independently from the wind, trees and plants slowly rocking under the breath of magic. Paths appear and disappear mysteriously. If you get lost, follow the small, benevolent forest-dwelling dragons and they will take you back home!
