Call of Adventure: Draconis' Magic

Dear readers, passionate about RPGs and imaginary worlds, today, in our "Secrets" article series, we are sharing with you a sneak peek of the world of Draconis, which the first campaign is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter from October 22th until November 15th.

Today we're going to introduce you to Draconis’ magic. Magic comes from Sparks and Tears, sources of energy. We've already briefly mentioned Sparks: they are the very essence of magic, and have recently reappeared in Dréankë, the Draconis universe.

These positive forces are grouped into five distinct elements:

  • Spirit, which touches souls and the psyche. Telepathic communication is linked to the Spirit.
  • Flux, a moving, flexible force. Accelerating wound healing is a matter of Flux.
  • The Immutable, which aspires to make things unalterable. Protecting an object or an individual comes from the Immutable.
  • The Invisible, a mysterious force that alters the world. Creating a force field is part of the Invisible.
  • The Swift, which brings about sudden changes, sometimes fleeting, often unpredictable. Lighting a candle magically is a matter of the Swift.

Sparks are opposed to Tears, each the opposite of a Sparkle. Tears are sometimes seen as nuisances to be countered, sometimes as negative emotions to be tamed, an integral part of all existence.

  • Fear is opposed to Spirit.
  • Melancholy is opposed to Flux.
  • Ruin is opposed to the Immutable.
  • Envy is opposed to the Invisible.
  • Wrath is opposed to the Swift.

All humans who use magic use Sparks. Only the dark-hearted, and the very few who have lost their way, use the magic of Tears.
